Meet Uncle Budsy
Uncle Budsy’s BBQ is a dream come true of Chef J. Peterson and owner Michael Davis, a Texan who moved up to Portland 3 years ago. Mike actually knew and was inspired by a man whose nickname was Uncle Budsy. He was a Jamaican immigrant and legendary BBQ pit master for over 35 years and was known in the neighborhood for sharing the controversial “fun flower.” His influence started Mike’s journey for the advocacy of Mary Jane and it’s healing potential, which he combined with his love of great BBQ and found the perfect opportunity to marry them both. The impact of this project is exciting for the industry and us.
J. Michael Davis
Mike is our head honcho, creative ideas mastermind and a financially savvy businessman. He is the founder of Oregon based, Bigado Networks, Inc. and is the principal and founder of EZ-Ticket.com. His extensive business experience includes financial consulting and investment banking and his technical background includes many high-end web-development certifications. Dr. Davis received his BA from North Texas University with a double major is Chemistry and Biology and received his DDS from Baylor College.
J. L. Peterson
JP or as we like to refer to him, “Chef Budsy,” is a native of Tuskegee, Alabama but has lived on and off in Portland most of his life. His roots come from an Alabama family of great cooks and restaurant owners, who influenced him with unbelievable food on trips down south as a child. Many of his aunts and uncles taught him from an early age the secrets to the best low country, southern cooking imaginable!
He has used these secrets and developed his talents to become a corporate catering specialist. His desire is to blend his traditional authentic regional southern recipes with flavors of the world that he has experienced through international travels. The fusion of Caribbean, Asian, or Mexican cuisines influence and inspire his recipes. His emphasis is on spices that add that Zing and provide a unique flavor profile and experience for your taste buds leaving you craving more.
His experience includes catering for signature events like the Sip Wine Festival in McMinnville, the Pendleton Roundup, the Salem Bite Festival, the Summer Zoo Concerts, the Cathedral Park Jazz Festival, the Astoria Crab Festival, the Soul’d Out Music Festival and the Waterfront Blues Festival over the last twenty years with Porters Catering, H&H BBQ and Southern Grill Catering.
Peterson is also passionate about combining Cannabis and its proven health effects with the exploding cuisine of authentic Southern Soul Food, for a healthy dining experience like no other!
Our marketing artist, as she calls herself, has been involved in a long career of advertising, marketing, event planning, film/commercial/video production, journalism, publishing and recently social media management. Her clients have included international production companies, foreign governments, production services and small businesses. She was respected worldwide as a expert in filming in Latin America and worked for the most prestigious Creativity festival in the world, the Cannes Lions, for 15 years.
She just relocated to Portland from LA in May 2017 and is excited about pursuing her passion for the healing herb and event planning. Watts is originally a native from southern Maryland and Virginia and loves southern cooking.
Public consumption of cannabis is currently illegal in Oregon. However, we do anticipate this to change with additional legislation.
Because of the current restrictions we are prohibited to legally sell or provide any infused sauces or edibles in our restaurant or food truck. However, it is legal to provide a private, invitation only infused dinner at a private event for persons 21+ in age.
